Step 2: Portfolio

  • The Personal Portfolio is an opportunity for students to tell us about themselves
  • Students are asked to think about the life experiences that they have had and to choose three (3) artifacts that represent how these life experiences have shaped them as individuals.
  • For each artifact students should, in 75 words or less:
    • explain what they have learned about themselves from the experience and explain how they can apply this learning in the future.

Portfolio Details:

For the purpose of this task, an artifact is a visual or graphic representation of an experience.

Examples of experiences may include:
  • A life event
  • A trip you have taken
  • A community event
  • A personal accomplishment
  • Participation in an activity
  • Involvement in the creation of something
  • The practice of a tradition
  • A responsibility you have taken

The portfolio provides an opportunity for applicants to share something about themselves

When you are deciding what to include, select experiences/artifacts that are meaningful to you.

This is a personal portfolio. We are hoping to learn about the applicant. To help us do this we encourage students to work independently and honestly.

For now, students can think about what experiences they would like to include, and how they might want to represent them as artifacts.

Information about submitting the portfolio will be sent to the student's email address after 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 13, 2025. For YRDSB students this address will be their YRDSB GAPPS account. For students who are not currently in the YRDSB system, the email will be sent to the student email address entered ont he EDSBY application form.

In the email you will receive:

  • A reminder of the instructions for completing the portfolio
  • A template for formatting the portfolio as a Google Slide presentation
  • Instructions about how to submit your finished portfolio through a Google Form

The submission due date is 9:00 p.m on Wednesday, November 19, 2025.
