Graduation Awards

All grade 12 graduating students are asked to complete the Graduation and Scholarship Award form. This form will gather information from students interested in any school sponsored scholarships and all of our Graduation awards.  If you have any questions regarding the form, please speak to Mrs. Jarrett in the Guidance office. Remember, once submitted you need to submit a detailed resume Ms. Jarrett. 

Each year Bayview S.S. provides its graduating class with numerous award opportunities. The Bayview Staff and the Graduation Committee determine the recipients of the awards.

  • Alliance of Educators for Black Students - Student Achievement Award is given to students demonstrating success in either academics, arts, athletics or school involvement.
  • Bayview SS Creative Arts & Design Award is intended to recognize students who were not nominated for subject awards, but who contributed to school life through their involvement in drama, art, music, technology or a combination thereof.
  • Bayview SS School Letter is given to students who participate in three or more of the following categories: arts, athletics, clubs, school wide operations and leadership, in addition to achieving a minimum 75% average each year in Grades 9-12. Students must submit a separate application for this award.
  • Bayview SS School Life Award is given to students deserving recognition for long term participation in a variety of school activities over their years at Bayview.
  • The Claude V. Wright Bursaries are sponsored by the Richmond Hill Masons and awarded to an outstanding and hardworking grade 12 student.
  • Department Awards are given to students who excelled in one or more classes in a department.
  • Floyd A Baillargeon Award - Excellence in Art given to a student who has excelled in the visual arts field within our school.
  • International Baccalaureate Citizenship Award is awarded to a student graduating with an IB diploma with financial needs.
  • Lieutenant Governor’s Community Volunteer Award is given to a select student for exemplary community contribution or outstanding achievement through volunteer activity. Students must submit a separate application for this award.
  • Ontario Principals’ Council Award for Student Leadership - presented to a student who has demonstrated exceptional leadership within the school.
  • OSSTF District 16 Proficiency is presented annually to a graduating student who has demonstrated a strong commitment to leadership, lifelong learning or social justice, and has made a positive contribution to the school community.
  • OSSTF District 16 Status of Women Scholarship is presented to three students in the school board (one for each pathway: college, trades, university). Students must submit a separate application for this award.
  • Richmond Hill Rotary Service Above Self Award is presented to a graduating student who is pursuing a career in the field of education/teaching at university. The recipient should have demonstrated both leadership and fellowship qualities and have excelled academically. Preference will be given to students enrolled in a concurrent education program.
  • School Council College Award is presented to a deserving student who has achieved their diploma and is entering college.
  • School Council Initiative Award is presented to a deserving student who has achieved their diploma/certificate and is entering the workplace.
  • School Council University Award is presented to a student who has achieved their diploma and is entering university.
  • Taha Advocacy Award is given to a student who has stood up for other students, is an anti-bullying advocate, has demonstrated quiet leadership in school, demonstrates humility and/or has supported other students.
  • York Region District School Board Student Dual Credit Scholarship Fund is awarded to a student who has excelled in the Dual Credit program.
  • York Region District School Board Student Specialist High Skills Major Scholarship Fund is awarded to a student who has excelled in the SHSM program.
  • York Region District School Board Student Trustee Award for Character is presented to one graduating Board student in every secondary school. The award is presented to a student who exemplifies the character values of the York Region District School Board and who is a role model to his or her peers. It is important that the student is not only an academic thinker, but also an ethical one. 

Graduation Awards that are determined by marks:

  • Governor General's Medal is awarded to the student who has achieved the highest academic average based on the final two years of study leading to the O.S.S.D. All Grade 11 and 12 subjects are considered into the average.
    Ontario Scholar is given to all students who achieve an 80% average or higher in their top 6 Grade 12 courses.
  • York Region District School Board Accomplishment Award is given to two graduating students with the highest average in his/her final year.
  • York Region District School Board Director’s Achievement Awards goes to three students with the top grade 12 averages based on the top six marks.

The Bayview School Letter is a graduation award given to chosen students that meet a variety of criteria. 

Minimum Requirements:

  • An average of 75% of higher in all four years at Bayview SS
  • Have participated in three or more of the following at Bayview SS:
    • Arts
    • Athletics
    • Clubs
    • School Wide Operations (Announcements, Prefects, STUCO)
    • Leadership (Executive positions on clubs/teams)

To verify the above, include a separate sheet listing all the relevant activities during your years at Bayview. You must include the activity, the year(s) of participation, the position of responsibility and the teacher advisor. In each case, you must obtain the signature of the supervising teacher who can verify your involvement. Your list must be neatly typed.

List your average for each semester in grades 9 – 12. Only include the average for courses at Bayview Secondary School.

Submit your application to Mrs. Jarrett including your midterm average for semester 2. All applications are due by May 6th to Mrs. Jarrett in Guidance.

This award recognizes students who have gone above and beyond in heir volunteer activities. Read your Guidance emails for specific information.  Due May 6th, 2025 to Mrs. Jarrett in Guidance.
